Electrical Engineer I
Perform electronics engineering development and sustaining tasks under direction of senior team members and Management. Tasks including root-cause analysis, experimentation and implementation of both internal and external issues. These may include field, in-house production, and end of life (EOL) component replacement. In addition, perform compliance testing tasks for certifying new features for current and new products. Testing both in-house and at test labs may be required for any product.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Sustaining Engineering functions and responsibilities:
Root-cause analysis and resolve electronic functional or performance issues, diagnose the problems, develop and implement testing for solutions. Create and drive the documentation and approvals needed.
Resolve component replacement issues arising from EOL or last time buy (LTB) announcements. Including scoping the replacement for form-fit-function drop-in replacement, functionally but not footprint compatible, or incompatible in functionality, power input, footprint or otherwise.
Make design changes, or create new designs, due to component replacement issues by implementing, generating approvals, cpmpletion of documentation such as schematics, layout, bills of material (BOM’s) and engineering change orders (ECO’s).
Collaborate and instruct Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service, Customers, Materials Planning and others to resolve problems and put solutions into production.
New Product Development (NPD) Engineering functions and responsibilities:
Complete tasks supporting development of hardware electronic functional or performance problems in existing products, reproduce and diagnose the problems, develop and implement testing solutions and create and drive the documentation and approvals needed.
Collaborate and instruct Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service, Customers, Materials Planning and others to implement and release new product to the production
Work with Sr EE design engineer and software engineers to trouble-shoot hardware issues during the design phase of a new product
Compliance Testing functions and responsibilities:
Testing of new and existing products to certify conformance to industry standards identified by the Product Manager.
Schedule test times with certification labs. Create, obtain, store and manage test results and certifications.
Identify and obtain equipment needed for testing, whether purchased or rented.
Test and self-certify as much as possible in-house to ensure that the testing will pass at the test lab while minimizing compliance test cost and design iterations.
Generate complete and accurate test reports for in-house testing and obtain final, formal test reports for test lab testing.
Establish and maintain searchable electronic storage that is accessible to Engineering and Product Management
Education: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Experience: 2 years in electronics design and/or sustaining, two plus years with component engineering and compliance testing desirable. Knowledge of RS232/422, I2C, SPI interfaces and GPIO is required. 10/100/1000 Mb Ethernet physical layer, POE, LVDS, DDR4, Step motor motion control, rotary encoders. Mechatronic products development a plus.
Strong ability to communicate well and build strong working relationships with people in many parts of the organization, at many levels, as well as with component suppliers, test houses and customers.
Proven experience in getting and giving information with others as well as obtaining commitment to action.
Excellent ability to take initiative while producing on time and high-quality results.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Knowledge in digital, analog, video processing, power supply and conditioning and other aspects of electrical engineering.
Knowledge of current hardware and software technologies, components and design tools.
Knowledge of and ability to use, test equipment and tools to fabricate and test electrical assemblies.
Working knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements relevant to electrical aspects of products including FCC, CE, NEMA TS-2, various MIL-STDs and others.
Strong desire to research and learn new tools and technologies
Occasionally interface and direct Lab Technicians and Manufacturing team members.
Office, Engineering lab and commercial test lab environment. Periods of sitting at a computer terminal and using a keyboard. Collecting, transporting, setting up, tearing down and using lab equipment, instrumentation, computers and camera products.
Occasional need to lift equipment and products up to 30 lbs.
